Robotic shot peening installation for a British aero engine manufacturer
A leading British manufacturer of aircraft engines was looking for a partner that did more than just build machines. Together with the client’s project team, Straaltechniek International developed a robotic shot peening installation that works on the green button principle.
Key facts
- Sector
- Aviation
- Client
- British manufacturer of aircraft engines
- Installation
- Robotic shot peening installation
- Configuration
- 2 robots, 10 nozzles, closed-loop control
- Application
- Including blisks
The challenge
Engine and aircraft OEMs apply highly critical process specifications. The starting point for this project was a process without manual intervention: a single press of the green button.
The solution
The installation meets all of the client’s requirements, thanks to process innovation, classification of the blasting media and process control:
- Maximum productivity with two fully automated robots
- Steel shot in two diameters
- Fully automatic changeover between 10 different nozzles
- Fully automatic classification of the peening media, for consistent quality without variation
- Closed-loop system for continuous process control and correction, with monitoring and data logging
- Fully adapted for blisks
The result
A complete system that is more than the sum of its parts. Straaltechniek International installations are designed for customers who must comply with standards including NADCAP, AS9100, FAA and EASA.
