Standard injection and pressure blast cabinets

Usually a distinction is made between two forms of rays; injection and pressure blasting. Injection blasting is carried out by means of a constriction (venturi) the abrasive is drawn into the nozzle. This works relatively better and more cost-effective with very fine abrasive. With pressure blasting, the a pressure vessel of air and blasting medium simultaneously pressurized and added to the air flow in the blast cabinet. This is a slightly more expensive solution because of the pressure vessel. However, a relatively larger grain can now be used for blasting with less air consumption.

If you only want to blast an object occasionally, we usually recommend an injection blast cabinet. Are you looking for a blast cabinet for continuous or intensive use? Then it is best to choose a pressure blast cabinet.

How to configure the right blasting cabinet

We provide automatic blasting in a blast cabinet for many customers. Often this is accompanied by a customization where intensive communication and technical creativity are desirable. There are many aspects to consider to find the best choice of blast cabinet for your needs:

  • The amount of product to be blasted per hour or per day determines the size, number and type of blasting nozzles. The hoses and the dust production again determine the size of the blast cabinet.
  • The type of blasting medium then again determines the type of blasting nozzle, but also the angle of the collecting funnel. This angle in turn affects the height and width of the blast cabinet.
  • The type of abrasive and the cleanliness of the product also determine the dust production. The dust production in turn determines the size of the extraction. Think of the filtering cloth surface and air capacity. This in turn determines whether the extraction can be chosen according to the standard blast cabinet with extraction, or whether the blast cabinet and extraction must be designed completely separately from each other.
  • The space available in your building naturally also influences the blast cabinet. The dimensions and weight of the product are of course also important. Just think where the extraction should be placed, if it is installed separately. But also: products of 6 meters long or very heavy products. Examples are long I-profiles or stainless steel safes.
  • Key interfaces such as pick-and-place units for loading and unloading of the blast cabinet are of great importance. What is the location of these machines that need to interact with the blast cabinet?
  • Finally, you can also think of environmental requirements for the blast cabinet. A striking example here is a customer who had built his own blast cabinet and then turned to us for the following problem. The entire production hall was affected by noise when the blast cabinet was in operation. The nozzles used were 10 mm, so that in this case the noise far exceeded 90 dBA. This was experienced as very annoying.

The possibilities for blast cabinet automation are almost endless. Which form of automation can best be applied depends on your product and wishes. In addition, it is important to look at the quantities of product to be blasted and whether there are many different variations in the product. Atex blasting cabinet

  • We can work with you to identify the risks of explosions in the blast cabinet or extraction.
  • A lot of dust is created during the blasting process. This dust consists of many grain sizes. We measure this grain size and describe it in the particle size distribution. It can be determined in advance with such a dust sample whether it can cause explosions. In certain proportions of oxygen and dust, an explosive mixture can be formed. This must be taken into account in the design phase of the blast cabinet or filter installation. If Atex guidelines (eg ATEX 114) must be complied with, then the blast cabinet must be equipped with, for example, reinforcements, a pressure relief, extra sensors and earthing cables. The fan of the blast cabinet must also be non-sparking and must comply with atex guidelines for fans. An explosion channel may need to be added to the blast box to dissipate the flames and pressure wave.
  • An explosion is prevented in an ATEX blast cabinet. If an explosion nevertheless occurs, it is ensured that the explosion takes place in a controlled manner, whereby no unsafe situation for the personnel may arise. This way your blast cabinet can never pose a danger!
  • We can test the explosiveness of the dust mixture for you, even before you order the blast cabinet! This way you can know in advance what the blast cabinet and the extraction must meet.
